All for one!

All for one!

All for one and one for all,
Comes from within our hearts.
All for one and one for all,
Knowledge we should impart.

We are defined by stories,
lived by all we see.
Words held in ourselves,
Of all our past deeds.

Fairytales teach us,
Good and evil exist.
Though evil may be present,
Our goodness can’t be missed.

Greek myths were written,
For a heroic age.
Yet most were deeply flawed,
You read it on every page.

The Egyptian promoted slavery,
Suffering they caused.
Gods were corrupted,
Their fall met an applause.

The Mayans and Aztecs,
Believed in sacrifice,
Taking it a step to far,
By taking a virgin’s life.

The Bible, Quran and Torah,
Teach ethics aplenty,
They draw people together,
In their religious sanctity.

Newspapers and magazines,
Spark the art of inquiry.
Don’t believe all you read,
Bias is clear to see.

Atlases and maps,
Are interesting to me,
They show changes in the world,
Throughout history.

The written word inspires,
It teaches us you see.
Cultural differences,
People from different creeds,

So now you’re off,
Pick up a book or two.
Build the library in you head,
So much out there for you.

History books will tell us,
Events happen repeatedly,
Ice caps have melted,
Plague spread quickly.

The world needs pandemics,
To control naturally,
The animals have face it,
We culled then without dignity.

So understand,
There’s messages inside,
A trove of hidden knowledge,
Make informed choices with pride.

When the libraries open,
It might be good to see,
The book you added to the world,
Your knowledge and legacy.
