The animals we have lost,
Stored within our hearts.
Will never really be gone,
They’re natural works of arts.
Humanity has wiped them out
Hunted them badly.
What right do we really have?
This question still haunts me.
The dodo died so long ago,
Dinosaurs have faded too.
Many more face an end,
We still add to the queue.
Tasmanian tigers they say,
What are they to me!
Creatures forgotten long ago,
That I’ll never get to see.
The devil may be next to pass,
The panda is nearing death.
Koalas fading from the world,
Will leave me quite bereft.
I fear for all the creatures now,
Their fading causes shock.
Then theirs that special creature,
Who has hidden in a loch.
The creatures live forever,
Kept within our mind.
But who will record us,
At the end of humankind.
