Today’s learning!

Today I was asked...

Today I was asked,
What home learning parents should do.
My response was simple,
It’s really up to you.

If you’re thin on resources,
Then apps are best for you.
Though Maths, grammar and reading,
I’d recommend you do.

Foundation subjects,
Have much more appeal.
When children enjoy,
Learning skills for real.

So if you look at trees,
Discuss how they grow.
What five elements,
Help in the bloom to show.

The way the weather changes,
Talk about some types.
Bring in food from all around,
Home learning insights.

Now hospitals have history,
The NHS does too.
Why Nightingale hospital they ask?
Florence and Mary it’s down to you?

Now you may think that playing,
Lacks the home learning bug.
But talk about the materials
From pig skin balls - car rugs.

From natural to man-made,
Sorting plastic, wood, metal,
Simple flower design,
Of a beautiful petal.

When you paint a picture,
Or write a simple list.
Developing fine motor skills,
Your children will enlist.

You can play spot the name,
A bit of research too,
Most street names,
Will throw up something new.

A street called Avon road,
Has a watery link,
Ethelburga what a name,
Royalty you have to think.

If you find it tricky,
In the moment plan what to do.
Go with what the children start,
As they’ll end up teaching you.

If they ask a question,
That you don’t know what to say.
Then as a lot of teachers do,
Start googling away.

These are just a few thoughts,
They help to see you through.
But if you find it tricky,
Don’t put such pressure on you.

The priority at this time,
I sure you already know.
Stay safe at home,
and watch a life skill show.

They could all learn,
A moral lesson too.
Through simple discussions,
About what’s happening around you.

I am a teacher,
I can suggest things which are cool.
But I’d enjoy the time together,
They’ll be less when back at school.
